Bodum French Press Recall 2026: 5.9 Million Recalled, Which Models Are Affected and What to Do
Bodum USA has recalled about 5.9 million French press coffee makers with 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable glass carafes, because the glass can break while hot coffee is inside and cause serious burns. You don’t need to throw your press away or send it back. The fix is simpler: stop stirring coffee in the glass carafe with a metal spoon, don’t use a carafe that’s cracked or chipped, and ask Bodum for a free plastic stirring spoon and warning label.
The recall was announced on October 29, 2026 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and covers presses sold all the way back to 1974. Here’s how to tell whether yours is included, what to do next, and the other big home recall from the same day that matters as the weather turns cold.
Which Bodum French presses are recalled?
According to the CPSC notice (recall number 27-055), the recall covers Bodum French press coffee makers with 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable glass carafes in these eight models:
- Bistro
- Brazil
- Caffettiera
- Chambord
- Crema
- Java
- Jesper
- Kenya
The Chambord, with its chrome frame, is the classic design most people picture when they think of a French press, so there’s a good chance one is sitting in your kitchen right now.
How to identify a recalled press
The CPSC says the Bodum name appears on the frame and inner lid of most models, and it’s engraved on the glass carafe along with product warnings. If your press says Bodum, holds 8 or 12 cups, and has a glass carafe you can lift out and replace, assume it’s covered. Bodum’s recall information page has extra photos and model details if you’re unsure.
Where and when they were sold
These presses were sold at Target, Walmart, and coffee and home goods stores nationwide, and online at Bodum.com, Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com and other retailers, from 1974 through October 2026, for about $15 to $65. They were made in Portugal and Thailand and imported by Bodum USA of New York.
Why the carafes are breaking
The problem is the glass. The CPSC says the carafe “can unexpectedly break during use if the glass carafe is damaged or cracked, including by use of a metal spoon to stir the coffee, posing a risk of serious burn injuries.”
Bodum has identified 70 reports of carafes breaking during use, including 48 reports of burns. Given that the recall spans more than 50 years of sales, the number of incidents is small, and Bodum stressed that point in its official statement, calling the rate of reported breakage “extremely low.” But a carafe full of near-boiling water shattering on a countertop is exactly the kind of accident that can send someone to urgent care, so it’s worth taking a minute to check yours.
The likely culprit is a habit many of us have: giving the grounds a quick stir with a metal spoon before pressing. Over time, metal can scratch or nick the glass, and small flaws can grow into cracks when the glass is heated.
What to do if you own one
This is a “repair” recall, not a refund or replacement. Here’s what the CPSC and Bodum ask owners to do:
- Stop stirring with metal right away. Use a plastic or wooden spoon instead, starting today.
- Inspect the carafe. Hold it up to the light and look for cracks, chips or scratches, especially near the bottom and the spout. If you find any damage, stop using that carafe.
- Request the free kit. Contact Bodum for a free Bodum plastic stirring spoon and a warning label to stick on your press. The label reminds you not to use cracked or damaged carafes and not to stir with metal.
- Keep using it safely. Once you’ve got the plastic spoon and your glass is undamaged, you can keep brewing.

Also recalled this week: DREO space heaters sold at Costco
On the same day, the CPSC announced a second household recall that’s more urgent, especially with colder nights arriving and many of us switching to standard time this weekend (see our guide to when daylight saving time ends in 2026).
DREO is recalling about 338,800 DR-HSH015 space heaters in the U.S., plus about 36,300 in Canada, because they can overheat and ignite. DREO has received 17 reports of heaters igniting, three of which caused property damage and one of which caused a burn injury to the hand.
Which DREO heaters are affected
The recalled heaters are black ceramic electric units, about 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall, sold with a remote control. Only units made from April 2025 through January 2026 are included. Flip the heater over: the model number (DR-HSH015) and manufacture date (in YYYY/MM format) are on a label on the underside.
They were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Costco.com, Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com and B2BRenew.com from September 2025 through October 2026, for $70 to $110.
What to do with a recalled DREO heater
Unlike the Bodum recall, this one says stop using the heater immediately. DREO will send a free replacement. To get it, you’ll be asked to unplug the heater, destroy it by cutting the electrical cord, and send a photo of the destroyed unit. You can reach DREO at 833-820-0887 (8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday), by email at spaceheater@realtimeresults.net, or online at recallrtr.com/spaceheater.
If you were planning to buy a new heater or coffee maker anyway, the holiday sales are close. Our rundown of Black Friday 2026 sale dates covers when Walmart, Target, Costco and others start their deals.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to return my Bodum French press?
No. The CPSC lists the remedy as a repair. Bodum is sending owners a free plastic stirring spoon and a warning label. You can keep using an undamaged carafe as long as you don’t stir with metal.
Will Bodum give me a refund or a new carafe?
The recall notice doesn’t offer a refund or a replacement carafe. The remedy is the free plastic spoon and label. If your carafe is already cracked, stop using it.
Is my old Bodum press included even if I bought it years ago?
Yes, if it’s one of the eight listed models with an 8-cup or 12-cup replaceable glass carafe. The recall covers presses sold from 1974 through October 2026.
Are Bodum’s other coffee makers recalled?
The CPSC notice only covers the 8-cup and 12-cup French press models listed above with replaceable glass carafes. If you have another Bodum product and aren’t sure, check Bodum’s recall page or call the number above.
Can I keep using my DREO space heater until the replacement arrives?
No. The CPSC says to stop using recalled DR-HSH015 heaters immediately because they can overheat and catch fire.
